Using state and local guidance, The House of the Seven Gables is excited to offer semi-private tours. There may be up to four visitors on a tour (number subject to change without notice to visitors).

The Semi-Private Guided Tour Experience includes:

  • Up to a 60-minute tour of The House of the Seven Gables and exploration time in the Nathaniel Hawthorne Birthplace.
  • Access to a 30-minute narrated historic site tour using a personal electronic device.
  • A unique map of our historic site.
  • Access to the Museum Store and restrooms.

Your ticket purchase is an agreement to the following disclaimers and our Visitor Service Guidelines. All sales are final.

  • Advanced Reservation Required: The Guided Tour Package is only available with an advanced reservation.

  • COVID-19 Safety Precautions: The House of the Seven Gables is following all state and local guidance for COVID-19. All visitors must wear a suitable face mask at all times and maintain 6 feet of physical distance from our staff. Vaccination status does not change the requirement to comply with state and local guidelines. Visitors who don't comply may be asked to leave without a refund.

  • Social Distancing: The guided tour will include tight spaces where you may not be able to maintain 6 feet from other visitors.

  • On-time arrival: Due to capacity restraints, we cannot accept late arrivals. No refunds will be offered for late arrivals.

  • Pets not allowed: Only service animals are allowed to accompany visitors to The House of the Seven Gables. Emotional support, therapy, and comfort animals are not permitted.

  • No refunds: All sales are final. Refunds are not available.

Limited discounted tickets are ONLY available for Gables and NARM members and Salem residents. Semi-private Guided Tours are not available for Go Boston pass holders. Proof membership or residency needs to be provided upon check-in or full admission will be charged.

FAQs about your 2021 Visit:

Do I need to buy my tickets in advance?

  • Yes. State guidelines recommend that all museums have online options for tickets and reservations. Getting your tickets in advance guarantees that you will have the experience of your choosing. Until our staff is vaccinated, we are working to limit visitor contact time as well.

Does the Grounds Pass allow me to go INSIDE any buildings?

  • No. The Grounds Pass is an open-air experience and does NOT include access to any of our historic interiors. Ticket holders can access the Museum Store and restrooms. The only way to experience the interiors is with the Semi-Private Guided Tour package.

What if it rains? What if I can’t come after I buy a ticket?

  • All sales are final and refunds are not available for any ticket or any reason. We have extremely limited capacity and need to have a daily plan for staffing and budgeting. We are a nonprofit historic site trying to recover from a financially devastating year.

Do I really need to wear a mask?

  • Yes. For everyone’s safety, you must wear a suitable face mask for your entire visit. Massachusetts guidelines state that all people over the age of 5 must wear a mask when in public places.

Why can't I have a discount?

  • Our nonprofit historic site lost $1.5 million in income in 2020. We are working toward stabilizing our future and cannot offer discounts.

What else is happening in Salem?

  • 2021 will be a challenging year for our community partners as guidelines change, reservation requirements become less restrictive, occupancy rates increase, and more. Our best suggestion is to request your free Salem guide [link to:] and download the Salem App from the App Store before your trip.
